The time has come once again for COLE (Conjunction of Literacy Engagement) to commence for the 3rd year at Lincoln Charter School! We are the reigning 2-time champions and are looking to build a team ready to keep the title here at LCS! So what is COLE? Well…it is Battle of the Books, a program many have probably heard of before but because only schools with a Media Center and full time Media Specialist can participate in the state B.O.B program the Charter Schools in the state created COLE. We read the same books and follow the same “battle” rules as Battle of the Books. If you have never heard of Battle of the Books, it is a very rigorous reading competition that requires time and commitment. Our Elementary COLE program is designed for students in 4th and 5th grade and while it is rigorous, we work hard to make it a fun after school club that really encourages the love for reading and team spirit! We will begin soon and it will consist of meeting for about an hour on Wednesday afternoons to read our books and prepare for a battle that will be in the spring. If your child is interested in participating on this year’s COLE team, please complete the application that came home in your child’s Tuesday Folder and submit the completed form to your child’s homeroom teacher by Tuesday, October 3rd.  All applications will be reviewed and a team will be chosen based off of student answers and teacher input. You will be notified via email by Jennifer Boner and Gini Sellers, COLE Coordinators, if your child has been selected for the team. The team will consist of 12 members, or regular participants, and 3 alternates.

Check out our amazing gr 3 students teaching the gr KG students our LCS community expectations.  Service learning is purposefully and intentionally using your talents to impact your community in a positive way.  Our gr 3 students took this initiative to impact the LCS community!  Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3, Photo 4

Middle School Moments
Middle School Nests
Nests were selected last Thursday and it was a big success.  Students and staff had a great time joining their new friends in coming up with a Nest motto, cheer, choosing leaders and brainstorming reward ideas.

Please expect communication from your student’s Nest Leaders in future Charter Chatters.  The communications will be highlights and announcements of all Nest activities.

A big thanks goes out to the moms who volunteered to help fill over 325 balloons and participate in our Nest selection ceremony.  This could not have been done without their help: Ashlee Akerblom, Dee Dee Clark, Kellie Kenning, Stacy Bradford, Carla Rice, Vicki Dalton, Angel Montgomery, Allie Desieno, Janet Marcukaitis, Whitney Jones, Becky Perryman, Dana Bean, Holly Caudler, Carolyn Dotson, Caryn Kay and Torrie Zink
