Empowering Eagles
As you may have heard, Lincoln Charter is initiating a K-12 mentor program –  Empowering Eagles – this year.  This is a significant undertaking, but we feel that this program will serve to strengthen our community in many ways. The goal of the Empowering Eagles program is to engage our student centered culture through emphasis on students’ overall well-being and building community momentum regarding the School Board mission statement/community expectations.  Research shows that effective adult – student relationships help to develop many of the positive outcomes that Lincoln Charter already works hard to accomplish – ensuring student academic achievement success, developing life skills, promoting attendance, increasing student engagement, etc.

From the start of the year, the school counseling department (with some assistance from Communities in Schools) has trained teachers and staff on creating positive mentoring relationships, and taken appropriate measures to match students and staff in mentor/mentee groups.  All students and full time staff are participating in Empowering Eagles (EE).  EE groups will meet roughly twice a month for about 20 minutes – this structure will depend somewhat on your child’s grade and their corresponding schedule.  Mentors will work with counselor-generated topics/discussions/activities for each EE session – activities will be centered on our community expectations of honesty, respect, empathy, responsibility, service and preparedness.  All families should hear from their student’s assigned mentor soon, most groups will begin meeting by the end of 1st semester at the latest.
Families should also expect on-going communication about Empowering Eagles that will primarily come from our counseling department.  If you have not checked it out, please feel free to visit our counseling blogs – the space that this department uses to periodically communicate with students and parents.  All counseling blogs can be found at http://www.lincolncharter.org/about/counseling/.
Thank you for your support, and please let us know if you have any questions.

Engaged Eagles
Volunteering at Lincoln Charter School is increasing and Eagles are Engaging daily.  The unofficial total is over 900 hours! This represents only a portion of what is actually happening on and off campus daily. There are Eagles who are volunteering directly in the classroom and are not included in this total.  If you have not logged your individual projects, now is the time to do so. If you have questions on how to log hours, contact Brenda DeYoe and I will help you get it done quickly.

Thank you to the Engaged Eagles who stepped up this past week for several immediate volunteer needs. The second quarter ends before Christmas break, so look for events to be scheduled in the very near future. Thank you Engaged Eagles!Links for the Engaged Eagles:  Parent Volunteer Information , volunteering,  Log Your Hours, Check back regularly for more opportunities.

Growth Mindset
This month your child is discovering that failure and mistakes are part of learning. Growth mindset is about using failures and mistakes to learn and get better. By implementing the following activities, you can reinforce the lesson. Fifteen minutes will be enough to complete each activity (you can spend more time if needed).  If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Bovee.

Activity #1
Read the “Mistakes Help Me Learn” poem, discuss and answer questions about how making mistakes can be a good thing. You can hang it up where your child can see it often!

Activity #2
When your child needs some quiet time, encourage them to be creative with the coloring sheet “Mistakes Help Me Learn“.
