Student Life
Red Cross Blood Drive  – Tomorrow! Donors Still Needed!
LCS will be hosting a blood drive on January 9th through the American Red Cross from 10:00 am -2:30 pm in our MS/HS Gym.  Our goal is 51 pints of blood! To sign up for a donation time please visit American Red Cross.  You can locate our blood drive by going to the “Find A Blood Drive” box and putting in our zip code, 28092.  You will then scroll down to locate Lincoln Charter School on January 9th. You can then select your donation type and time.  If you have any questions, please contact Jessica Kelly.  High school students must be at least 16 years old to donate and must meet the Red Cross donation criteria.  Parental permission is required for all 16 and 17 year old students through a consent form students must pick up from the MS/HS Front Office.  Thank you in advance for your donation!

Driver’s Education Class (Lincolnton Students Only)
Driver’s Ed registration is open now for the class at the Lincolnton campus in March. See details below:

Class details:
Dates: March 12th-March 28th (No Friday classes)
Location: Lincolnton Campus Multi-Purpose Room
Time: 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Lincoln County School Board Drivers Ed Fee: $53.00
(Check or Cash will not be accepted)
Seats: By law the class is only allowed 50 seats per class. This class is a first come first serve basis.

Your student must be able to attend each day (only 1 absence allowed) and be there for the final exam on March 28th.  Student must be at least 14 ½ years old on or before the first day of class.

Driver’s Education Registration Information
To register your student for Driver’s Education Class (Lincolnton Students Only), please go onto your MyPaymentsPlus account for your student to fill out the registration form and remit payment ($53). If you do not pay at time of registration, a seat will not be reserved for your student. Payment secures your student’s registration and seat. Once the class is full, the fee will be removed from MyPaymentPlus.   For any questions, please contact Jessica Kelly.

Coffee & Conversation
All families are invited to join us for Coffee & Conversation  with members of Administration. These sessions are an opportunity for you to meet with your student’s building administrator over coffee and light refreshments.  We look forward to conversations to strengthen our community. Please RSVP by completing this form.  

Yearbooks for each level are on sale through Jostens now.  LCS produces three different yearbooks, and direct links to purchase yours are below.  


Please note that students in both Lincolnton and Denver share a combined book at each level, so there is no need to differentiate between campuses.  Order by February 1 to guarantee current prices.

Yearbook Recognition Ads
Now is the time to start gathering those photos of your “babies” young and old.  In addition to high school seniors, elementary and middle school “graduates” will have the opportunity to be featured in the ads section of their respective yearbooks this year.  Go to Jostens.com to upload pictures, enter your message, choose your layout and pay for your ad.

The final deadline for purchasing ads is February 16.

Lincoln Charter School believes in encouraging students to be civically minded and engaged in the community.  The Learn.Serve.Engage program mandates the completion of service hours each academic year (June 1 – May 31). Hours can be earned in the community and school.  They may be volunteer service or service-learning hours.

LSE Log Site – x2Vol.com
Students in grades 3-12 are to use x2Vol to log their LSE hours.  Accounts for students are pre-registered with each student’s school issued email address.  NEW ACCOUNTS are not to be created. Students in 3rd grade and students who are new to LCS will have registered accounts available for claim in the next two weeks.  Instructions for claiming pre-registered accounts can be found here.  

LCS service hour goals

x2Vol is for LCS Students grades 3-12 only due to accounts being associated with student email addresses.  Students in grades K- 2 are encouraged use a paper log until they enter 3rd grade.

Lobby Guard
Thank you to our families and local business members.  The LCS School Board has voted to use the Eagles’ Nest fund to purchase Lobby Guard for all LCS lobby entrances.  This increased security feature will require all guest and visitors to scan their state issued ID each time entering a building.  Please be sure to bring your ID every time! More information to follow!

Engaged Eagles
Volunteer hours are beginning to add up.  There are 9 families that have reached and exceeded their goal of volunteering 30 hours for the school year!

Planning is underway for the 2019 Talon Walk. The next meeting is Thursday, January 10 at 6 p.m. in the K-1 building workroom.

Elementary Excitement

Parents, STAR club will be meeting on January 16th from 3-4pm in the elementary art room.  This is for students who have attended a meeting before since we are currently at our capacity.  Thank you for your flexibility.

Elementary Art
Welcome back!  We are currently wrapping up with clay (3rd-6th), starting our painting units and soon will be prepping pieces for our art show.  

Mark your calendars! The Art Show will be April 4th, here at school.  A setup/take down volunteer sheet will be coming as well as official times.  

Library News
Thank you to all our volunteers who continue to help keep the library tidy and organized.  I appreciate each one of you.  

We would love to create a Lego board wall for our students to use.  There is a sign up genius link below. Middle School Moments
7th Grade Camp Weaver Trip
We are happy to announce that LCS will continue our partnership with the YMCA’s Camp Weaver for the 7th Grade overnight trip.  The trip will be April 9-10 and will include a trip to UNC Chapel Hill. More information can be found in the link below.

7th Grade Overnight Field Trip Information

Parents may sign up to chaperone by completing the form below. We hope to get 10 parent chaperones to join us on the trip to help supervise/monitor student groups throughout the field trip. I anticipate these groups being no larger than 10 students to a chaperone. Teachers will be attending as well and will be floating between groups to supervise. Below is a list of requirements for parent chaperones:

  • Pass a background check
  • Pay $75
  • Be positive, and encourage a growth mindset in the students
  • Be able to stand and walk a good portion of the day for two days

Any student who will be in high school during the 2019-2020 school year is invited to travel with Ms. Hopper and Mrs. Melby to Europe over spring break 2020! An informational meeting will be held in room 203 at 6:30pm on Tuesday, January 15th. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Hopper or click on the following link for more details.

Golden Eagle
Beginning with the Class of 2018, Lincoln Charter offers high school students an opportunity to earn a Golden Eagle Diploma.  The Golden Eagle represents the highest honor for students that participated in the full Lincoln Charter Experience. Beginning with a high school student’s Freshman year, students will be given the opportunity to earn credit towards the award.  Students that begin after their Freshman year will be able to participate on a prorated schedule.

HS College Information Nights

Lincoln Charter School will be holding information sessions for
parents of 9th and 10th graders on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 8:30 am at the Denver Campus and 6:30 pm at the Lincolnton campus.

Sessions for parents of 11th graders will be on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 8:30 am at the Denver Campus and 6:30 pm at the Lincolnton campus.

Sessions are open to all LCS parents regardless of which campus students attend. Topics to be covered include a brief overview of: Tips for College Planning, College Resources for Students/Families, Choosing the Right College, College Visits and Deadlines, and Financial Aid Resources.  Sessions will last approximately one hour in length and time will be provided for questions.

ACT Prep for Juniors Opportunity
Mrs. Granzen is offering an ACT Prep opportunity for juniors in January and February.  Please view details here.  If you are interested in having your student attend the class, or are a student interested in taking the class, please email Mrs. Granzen and Ms. Kelly so we can be prepared.  This is a great opportunity! Students who took this in the past have had solid increases in their scores.
