05.07.2019 Charter Chatter Lilncolnton

Every year, Lincoln Charter asks for input from our families in several ways.

First, we ask that you vote in this year’s School Board election, these parent-elected School Board representatives serve our community in many ways.  You can access this year’s ballot here – School Board Ballot.  Voting closes on 5/17.

We also need your input on our annual parent survey.  Our admin team and staff review these results each year.  This helps us to evaluate our service to our community. Please take the time to complete this survey – your response will help us grow and improve!  You can access this survey here – Parent Survey.

Proctors Still Needed
Calling all volunteers! We need Testing Proctors! We are 15 volunteers short for Wednesday & Thursday! Lincoln Charter needs testing proctors for the 2018 NC State EOG’s and EOC’s, which take place each morning during the week of Monday, May 13th – Friday, May 17th, 2019. Check with your employer as many offer incentives to help out your child’s school. We love grandparents, aunts, uncles, and our very wonderful retirees.  This is one of the last events to get your volunteer hours in for the year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Brenda DeYoe.  Click here to proctor for a test.

PTO
2019 Track Attack Fundraiser
The PTO’s Track Attack is back! This year’s event will be held on Friday, October 4th! We are super excited to be releasing this information earlier than ever before!  Track Attack will be an all-day event, full of games, relays, activities, music and more!  In order to make it successful, we need YOUR help! If you are interested in serving to help plan the event or would like to consider volunteering for the event please contact myself or Kelly Calderon.  This year’s goal is to raise money to purchase classroom technology, provide appreciation events for our hard-working, dedicated, teachers and staff, as well as increasing the amount of teacher reimbursements for classroom supplies.

In 2018-2019 LCS PTO used funds raised during the Talon Walk to provide $4000 to teachers for reimbursements; donated $10,000 to LCS for school technology; $1,900 to upgrade water fountains around the LCS campus; $7,500 donation towards LCS campus hardscape items (picnic tables, benches and trash cans); $875 to purchase additional AED for LCS campus and $1,000 donation toward 2019 Spring Festival.

Copies of the Track Attack Sponsorship Form will be available in the ES Office and the MS/HS Office. We will be accepting Sponsorships starting May 6th through September 13th. Please feel free to make as many copies as you need.

So, get out there and start getting family, friends, neighbors, and businesses to commit to sponsor our event.  We are super excited about the special incentives for teachers, classrooms and families for collecting sponsorships this year!  More details to follow.

EOG Testing May 13-17th
With EOG and EOC testing happening the week of May 13th, teachers are planning on doing review sessions with students as well as mixing in brain breaks to help ensure that students are not stressed about the test and are better able to focus as they take their tests. That being said, there will be times where teachers bring students outside to do their active brain breaks. For this week it would be good to send the following with your child:

  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Possibly a towel to sit on in case they eat lunch outside

MS Schedule
As we near the end of this school year the time has come for rising 7th and 8th graders to choose which electives they would like to pursue next year. We are always looking for ways to increase the electives we offer to students and are pleased to announce that we are adding art and chorus to our course offerings moving forward. We have discussed this with rising 7th and 8th grade students and have sent home forms they need to use to choose their elective for next year. This is due back by Friday, May 10th. Please turn them in to homeroom teachers. Copies of the forms are below, along with a copy of the rising 6th grade schedule. Please note that the schedules are subject to change.
