Track Attack is the LCS Denver PTO’s biggest fundraising event of the year! We celebrate with a wonderful day filled with games and a 5K run each year. PTO fundraising has begun and donations are trickling in. Donate early to get a visit from our Weekly Prize Patrol in September. Our Track Attack goal this year is $85,000. Flyers went home with K-5 students last week. Be sure to look out for PTO emails as well. Use My Payments Plus to donate and business sponsor forms can be found here.

New Parent Coffee
New Parent Coffee will be held on Friday, September 6th from 8:00 – 9:00 am in the Lower Building Media Room (6th grade hallway). This is an opportunity for new parents to get to know one another, meet the administration, and find out what the school & the PTO have to offer. New parents in any grade are invited, as well as veteran parents to welcome them.

K-5 Room Parents Needed

Elementary Excitement
Please be reminded that students in the K-6 building are assigned to a specific bus.  Many of our buses are currently assigned to their capacity. For the safety of all children, students are NOT ABLE to ride a bus which they are not assigned to or do not have a bus tag to ride.  This allows LCS to ensure that we have all of the safety information for all students on a bus at all times and never exceed the capacity of each route. If you have friends coming home, please plan for a carpool pickup.

Thanks to one of our volunteers, Ms. Schoff, we will be offering YOGA as an opportunity for grade 4 and 5 students during recess on rotating Fridays.  Students are encouraged to bring a towel and a water bottle that closes for this time during their assigned Fridays. This alternative recess activity will be held in the media lounge.

Grade 5 students will be going to the Reserve Air Base in Charlotte September 16th  through September 19th. Students will leave campus at approximately 8:15 each morning and return shortly after 2 PM.  On Friday, September 20th, all parents, friends and family are welcome to join us for their graduation and rocket launch in the Rescue Squad Park.  More details will follow. Please plan accordingly for appointments and early dismissals as we are not able to allow student to leave early from the airbase due to security clearances.

Sally’s YMCA Water Safety
Grade 2 students will be going to Sally’s YMCA September 17th through September 20th.  This free educational opportunity is provided by Lincoln County in connection with Sally’s YMCA.  Students will be learning skills associated with CPR, 911 safety, boating safety, swimming and water safety, as well as rescue and recovery.  There will be classroom and water courses each day. Please read the weekly newsletter for more details about dress and preparedness.

Middle School Moments
Follow your Student’s Schedule Night
Thursday, September 5th 6:30 pm
Parents and students are encouraged to attend this evening.  Families will be following their individual student’s schedule and receiving valuable information from the teachers about their classes.

MAP Testing
All middle school students, grades 6-8, will take a Beginning-of-Year (BOY) MAP test.  MAP is a nationally normed assessment that predicts a student’s current level of achievement in both Math and Reading.  MAP also provides predictors to a student’s potential successes for the end of the year. MAP allows the school to identify student strengths and areas for growth, which provides teachers with valuable information to differentiate instruction for each individual student.

The middle school would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped out during our Nest Induction ceremony.  A special shout out goes to Angie Bennett, Mickey Palmer, Angela Ryan, Shelbe Oldham and Torrie Zink for helping to stuff and blow up over 100 balloons.
