According to the editors at History.com, “Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history. ”
Lincoln Charter will recognize Black History Month from Feb. 1st - March 1st as a part of “Spotlight on Diversity” which provides students, staff, and families the opportunity to learn about and celebrate the diversity within our school community. The goal is to highlight the contributions of diverse Americans, share resources for learning more about a variety of cultures and hear from staff members and students.
We are excited to announce a new signature event, Soulfest which will highlight Black History Month. Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 4th from 12:00-4:00 pm at our Denver Campus. This is an opportunity for our Black community to highlight their culture in a variety of ways. The event will include a food truck cookoff, games, and entertainment highlighting African American culture, exhibits, and more.
