Drivers Education

Lincoln Charter School, through Lincoln County Schools, has contracted with NC Driving School to provide driver's education services for our students. Our students can register for classes at any of the Lincoln County schools

Driver Education courses consist of two phases:

-A classroom portion, which involves 30 hours of instruction and an eye exam

-A driving phase, which involves 6 hours behind the wheel

 

Registration

Registration for a Driver Education Course will open 3 weeks before the first day of the start of a class. The fee for the class is $65.00. Parents will make payments through their child’s Lincoln Charter School MyPaymentsPlus account. 

 

The process for registration has changed with the new company. Please follow these guidelines to ensure your child's seat in the class. 

  • Students must be 14 ½ years old on or before the first day of class.
  • Students who meet the age requirement may register for the class by using this link.
  • After registering, email Lois StrainYou must include:
    • Student’s full name
    • Student’s campus & grade 
    • date you are registered for Drivers Ed. 
    • screenshot of your completed registration
  • A fee of $65.00 will then be added to your child’s My Payments Plus account.
  • Once paid, confirmation of your payment and registration will be sent to the appropriate contact at Lincoln County Schools. 

Upon completion of the two components, students receive a Driver's Education Certificate, which allows them to apply for a Level One Limited Learner Permit at 15 years of age, the first level of North Carolina's graduated licensing process for drivers under age 18. In order to obtain your Permit, you must have a Driver's Eligibility Certificate.

 

Driver's Eligibility Certificates

Parents may obtain their student's DEC (Drivers Eligibility Certificate) from the Upper Building front desk at either campus.  Please call ahead, so we are able to verify your student meets all of the grade requirements. 

 

  • A parent or legal guardian must be present to sign the certificate.
  • State law mandates all schools report grades twice a year. 
  • Students must be passing 4 of 6 classes at any given time during the school year and making progress towards graduation. 
  •  By signing the DEC we are certifying your student is in good standing with the school. 
  • The Driver's Eligibility Certificate is good for 30 days after signing, if it expires, return the original to the school for another certificate

 

Please bring the following information with you to obtain the Driver's Eligibility Certificate.

  • Drivers' Education Certificate (says you completed the 30 hour class)
  • Proof of current address 
  • Birth Certificate
  • Social security card
