WINGSPAN: A FLIGHT PLAN FOR BUILDING ON 25-YEARS OF HISTORY
VISION STATEMENT
Lincoln Charter is the premier college prep community for highly-engaged educators and learners, focused on expanding pathways and producing well-rounded, service oriented, and empathetic future leaders.
PURPOSE
Lincoln Charter is undergoing a strategic planning process to set goals and create a flight plan for the organization's future. The flight plan, Wingspan, will be released as LCS celebrates its 25th Anniversary in 2023. The purpose is to determine how we maintain our established history while building a legacy that will allow us to maximize our impact.
PROCESS
- Reflect: Provide an opportunity for formal feedback from staff, students, parents, and the community.
- Rekindle: Identify strengths, needs, & opportunities for growth.
- Refocus: Identify a 3-5-10 year plan
QUESTIONS
- What will LCS look like in 3, 5, and 10 years?
- Who will LCS compare itself to as a success?
- What will make LCS unique and set us apart from other educational institutions?
- What will the organizational structure look like in 3, 5, and 10 years?
- What does college prep mean at LCS?
- What is the vision for each campus?
- What binds the two campuses together?
METHODOLOGY
- Facilitated 3 in-person/remote workshops, EAC, B&B, forums, and 100+ hours of strategic planning
- Conducted assessment to understand current strengths, pain points, and opportunities
- Hosted vision "kickstarter" activity to begin defining the ideal future state for LCS
- Evaluated objectives, initiatives, Key Performance Indicators, and dependencies for each proposed strategic pillar
- Collaborated with LCS stakeholders to determine alignment and analyze supporting survey results
VISION FOR THE FUTURE & STUDENT IMPACT
Vision for the Future: Lincoln Charter provides creative and impactful content designed with students in mind. Helping students to develop social-emotional skills while engaging with relevant topics and ideas.
Student Impact:
- Builds Social-Emotional Skills
- Highly educated and informed teachers that weave in current events, trends, and learning styles into their lessons
- Academic road maps designed with student input
Connection
Vision for the Future: Studies show that access to caring adults (serving in the role of life navigators) is one of the most impactful strategies to increase social capital. Social capital is a key indicator of a student's future success.
Student Impact:
- Engaging alumni through 1:1 Mentoring relationships
- Regular cross-campus engagement that promotes knowledge sharing and growth
- Relationships are intentionally fostered, communication between students, parents, and teachers encouraged
Community
Vision for the Future: Lincoln Charter has grown a network of alumni with interest in serving the school. Their reach extends from elementary to high school. Intentional focus on creating meaningful partnerships in the community.
Student Impact:
- DEI is prioritized and used as a baseline for all new initiatives
- Cohorts grow together, connect across grade-levels, and students stay connected with life-long teachers and mentors from K-12
- Cross-campus connections help bridge the gap to opportunities otherwise inaccessible, strengthening the community.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
As part of the 5-Year strategic planning process, Lincoln Charter identified six strategic pillars that will support the school's vision statement and guide the school into the future.
ACADEMICS
Lincoln Charter will continue to be the standard for K-12 academic excellence and support pathways towards higher education, vocational trainings, and individual development.
Objectives:
- Implement instructional model to ensure all learners progress in core content annually & expand elective AP classes offered
- Explore vocational offerings focused on skill & trade through local partnerships
EDUCATOR SUPPORT
As influential leaders that shape the future, Lincoln Charter will continue to invest in the well-being and development of its staff. Strategic action will help provide more employee recognition and improve overall work satisfaction.
Objectives:
- Improve teacher / administrator retention & work satisfaction
- Improve employee recognition and provide more consistent feedback
CAMPUS CONNECTION
As part of building the LCS community and helping reach its potential, strategic efforts will be made to better connect the two campuses and maximize the resources available.
Objectives:
- Increase communication, interaction, standardization across Lincolnton & Denver campuses
- Use athletics and shared facilities to connect the two campuses
SCHOOL CULTURE
Lincoln Charter will continue to embody its people-first school culture as the foundation for building meaningful relationships throughout the community with students, teachers, parents & administration.
Objectives:
- Improve diversity, equity, & inclusion throughout both campuses
- Increase student accountability, create an atmosphere of service to each other, and provide discipline while maintaining school spirit
PARENT PARTNERSHIPS
As members of the Lincoln Charter community, parent participation is encouraged to help support students achieve their goals. LCS will explore opportunities to further engage parents through regular communications.
Objectives:
- Improve communication with parents to keep them informed and resourceful
- Encourage parent opportunities for both on-campus and off-campus events
INNOVATION
Lincoln Charter will take a strategic approach to innovation that focuses on maximizing the effectiveness of technology in the classroom and exploring learning opportunities outside of the classroom.
Objectives:
- Streamline technology use in classrooms to ensure appropriate balance & maximize effectiveness
- Continue to define new learning experiences and opportunities for students outside of the classroom
